After 12 years with the same man, I am about to embark on my first festive season as a single parent. I have somehow ended up child free for New Year’s Eve, so had to find some ideas of things to do. So with that in mind, I have compiled this list of Ten New Year’s Eve ideas for singles. Read on to find out what I came up with.

Ten New Year’s Eve Ideas For Singles
Escape Room Fun – Lots of my friends wanted something fun to do, which didn’t involve paying ridiculous club prices. So I suggested we all chip in and do an escape room. You know the kind of thing… You’re all locked in a room for an hour, and have clues and riddles to solve, in order to escape in time. They are brilliant fun. If you can get half a dozen people together, I’d say it’s a brilliant alternative New Year’s Eve activity.
Walk The Dogs – Fireworks can be a huge source of anxiety for dogs – Mine included. If yours is likely to be in by itself all evening, take it for a massive walk in the day to help it sleep through the noise. You never know – you might even meet a fellow dog lover. Results like that definitely count as hassle – free dating, right?
Expand Your Social Circle
Invite The Neighbours Round – Inviting the neighbours round for a drink or two would be a great way to finally get talking to that single guy who just moved into number 11…! Additionally, inviting the neighbours round for drinks can be a great way to finally get to know them enough to ask them to take parcels in for you. So it’s a great result, whether or not you get lucky with Mr Mysterious.
Girl’s Night In – Order a take away and dig out the embarrassing photos from your awkward teen / uni days. Nothing beats having a boozy session with the girls.
Who am I kidding? Upgrade Girl’s Night, and have a house party instead! It doesn’t have to be expensive, either. Just line up some tunes on your Alexa, put out a few nibbles and enforce a strict “bring your own booze” policy. I’d offer people floor space too, but suggest they bring air beds if they don’t want to sleep on the floor.
Pay It Forward
Offer To Babysit – If you really don’t have any plans for New Year’s Eve, offer your services as a babysitter and pay it forward. With any luck, Karma will reward you with an amazing NYE next year, instead. This is definitely the most selfless suggestions on my list of New Year’s Eve ideas for singles.
Volunteering – There’s no denying that many people are facing austerity this holiday season. It’s literally impossible to scan my Facebook timeline without seeing another family facing a bleak Christmas. So much so, there are more places than ever crying out for volunteers. Shelters, food banks and many more places would be glad of your services on New Year’s Eve.
Visit Relatives – If you’ve got no solid plans, why not phone round your relatives and get yourself invited round for the evening. I know plenty of my elderly relatives would be glad of a visit… Even if it is only so I can tune in their new smart TV…!
Line Up A Date – With sites like welovedates.com, it’s never been easier to line up a last minute date. A few things to remember: Be sure to meet somewhere public, make sure someone knows where you’re going and never EVER go back to theirs on the first date.
Prop up the bar – You can always head down to your local and have a few drinks. In my book, there’s nothing wrong with women going into a bar alone. Plus, if anyone questions you, just say you’re hiding from the kids.
Sleep! – If you’re anything like me, you’re likely to be exhausted by the time New Years Eve gets here. My kids are with their Dad that night, but I’m expecting to be snoring by the time the bells toll! The Christmas Holidays always take it out of me.
